We would like to take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents. Security remains a top priority for the RRA, and we are continuously working to enhance measures that protect our neighbourhood.
The proactive management of criminal activity remains a key focus for us. And working together with all residents to identify and secure areas of vulnerability has helped us address a spate of opportunistic crime that affected the community late last year. We identified a vacant property on the perimeter of Bloekom / Dale Lace that was being used by criminals to access the suburb without being detected by the cameras and security guards at the booms. The owner of the property refused to do anything about the situation, resulting in the RRA installing additional security measures to effectively close off this weak spot, and eliminating further incidents.
Although we had a spate of incidents towards the end of last year, our yearly crime stats remain flat with 34 incidents in 2023 and 35 incidents in 2024. There is a slight increase YoY from 2022. Please refer to the graphs below.
Burglary in our neighbourhood remains the biggest concern with 14 burglaries in the past year and 4 attempted burglaries. Vehicle theft was also a major problem.
It must be noted that our crime incidents are significantly lower than other suburbs that fall within Sector 2 and this is a testament to the RA, our residents and our security provider, ProForce, working closely together to limit criminal activity within our neighbourhood.
This year, we will continue to look at where and how we can further expand on current security measures however we cannot stress enough the importance of vigilance among residents. Your proactive participation plays a vital role in maintaining a secure environment. We kindly remind everyone to remain alert and report any suspicious activities or incidents directly to ProForce Security. Prompt reporting enables quicker responses and better outcomes for the entire community.
